A common necessity in the paper industry is
removing the paper left on the spent core or
mandrel. This is usually done manually using
a utility-type knife or hand saw which
involves considerable amounts of time and
possible injury to the employee.
Viking Machine & Design has developed a
paper cutting machine that may be the answer
to this time consuming task. The vacuum
unit will vacuum up the dust from cutting.
Spent mandrels are lowered onto a cradle.
The saw operator positions the cutting
mechanism over the roll and begins the
cutting operation. The saw lowers and begins
traversing lengthwise over the paper,
cutting up to 4" of paper product per pass.
A PLC controls the depth of cut within 1/4"
of the mandrel or core. The balance of the
paper is easily cut away and reprocessed.
